Charlotte's Web, Let's Talk Marijuana
I spent the majority of my life in deep-seated rejection bordering on hatred of Marijuana. For many painful and personal reasons, I had zero tolerance in my life for anyone talking about it or using it, my mind was tightly closed to the subject. Then one day sometime in 2004, a new patient arrived at my office for treatment. All I knew was that she had MS, for 30 years. I expected a wheelchair in my waiting area. There was no wheelchair...there was also no walker, not even a cane. If you know MS and its devastating effects on mobility, you understand how unusual this was. Long story short. This clear-eyed, intelligent, articulate women had been using MMJ under the care of her physician, for ten years. She said it changed her life. This and other experiences like it began to shift my thoughts and perceptions towards Marijuana. I could not ignore the positive impact this herb, ingested in various forms, was having in the lives of "respectable people." It's taken a lot of years, and continued research to change my belief systems around Marijuana.
I completely agree with neurosurgeon Dr. Sanjay Gupta when he says we have been "systematically misled" about marijuana. It is time. Time for us as a culture to crack open the collective mind, drop the extensive limitations being placed on research, and get to the job of fully exploring the powerful healing properties of this plant.
