ADHD
While attending Osteopathic college, I found one of the best resources I know of on the topic of brain function. I have learned, forgotten, and relearned more information from this book than I can express. I'm sure you're familiar with that cycle!
The title? A User's Guide To The Brain; Perception, Attention, and the Four Theaters of the Brain. Eventually I will do a book review on this important resource, for the moment though, what brings me to mention it is personal. It's a challenge you may be all to aware of yourself! I'll start with a question... Do you ever get to the end of your day, or heck, even 9:00 a.m of your day and find yourself asking: "WHAT is the DEAL with this kid, I love her but WHY is all of this craziness STILL going on...she's 20 years old, shouldn't this be done by now?" If this sounds like you, then you may be living with a person who has an ADHD brain.
I'm going to be sharing a lot on this topic, as it has impacted my family in so many ways. For today, I just wanted to clarify for some who are new to the challenges of living with someone you love, who has an ADHD brain. Most important is this: according to the DSM 5 the official terminology is not ADD or EFD (executive function deficits/disorder) it is ADHD, which is then divided into categories some with and some with out hyperactivity. For some readers, this may be old news, but for others it is important to know the accurate terminology. Personally I wish the three were distinguished separately for simplicity and clarity. Not all people with ADHD brains have EFD and vise versa. I've seen this referenced in many resources.
