Look Deeper for the Why...

Oh my goodness, how long it has been, even though there have been many contributions to my being away, my passion to grow and share has never wavered!

So, with that...As an Occupational Therapist and parent, I have a duty to look beyond what is plain to see and seek understanding of what is "simmering" just beneath the surface. Look beyond the actions, to understand the emotions that are driving the behaviors. Those are things that come to mind for me every time I hear a story about how our students are struggling, or see the heavy expression on a young persons face as they say they are "stupid" and it's clear they are confused as to why they don't score well on tests. These are in fact bright students, who have a gift for seeing life with a vision that is more intuitive, less...in the box so to speak perspective. They are observers, compassionate, supportive, emotionally intelligent youngsters who learn best through visual or physical experiences rather than structured pencil/paper activities.

I actually had a PhD Psychiatrist say to me "there's really no such thing as different learning styles". There are few things that I reject immediately, that opinion was one.  My experiences have dictated to me that there are indeed different learning types, and for our youngsters to grow and flourish, those types need to be honored.

I love the caption below...to me it is spot on.
