What makes you feel free?
You know that internal sensation I'm talking about...that feeling that the world is actually a beautiful place. Like there is more light in and around you. Maybe even a sense that life is really more simple than it has been feeling lately. It's that feeling of weightlessness that suspends your sense of reality and makes the room you're sitting in look like the sun just got a little bit brighter.
I live in Colorado, its really easy to get that feeling just by looking out the window on a bright, breezy fall afternoon. I also get it when I listen to Keb' Mo', the tone of his voice reaches in and pulls me into a calm zone, makes me remember to follow the advice of Thich Nhat Hanh who guides us to "Smile, breathe and go slowly."
When I think about, listen to, or do what makes me feel free I forget about the stresses, the news headlines, the kids' grades, the dog messing the carpet again! Just for a moment I'm filled with and surrounded by an internal sense of equilibrium. I'm filled with a calm that lets me if only for a moment, believe that everything really is gonna be alright.
So, my Healthy You Solution for today could actually be called a "soul-ution"... get in touch with what makes you feel free. Life may be tough, but there is also a vast supply of sights, sounds, tastes, activities and such, that bring about a smile, laugh, or sense of calm. Finding what makes you feel free will help reduce the damaging effects of negative stress and ultimately supports your good health.
